Chocolate milkshakes had to be the most awesome culinary invention ever. At least that was according to Brandon, as he hungrily took a long sip from the cold treat. College was like culture shock so this Friday night with Chaucer at Creamy Dreamy was an amazing stress reliever. The boy had changed his mind the first day of classes, switched his major from business to undeclared, the advisor told him it really didn’t matter just yet but it would be in his best interest to choose by October when the time came to pick classes for the Spring. Sure, he was taking ‘GenEd’ courses that applied to any major, but there were only so many of those required.

So the boy wasted four days a week divided in one hundred level courses that reminded him of high school and spent almost an equal amount of time running around campus. The differences were amazing but the similarities were astounding. His professors didn’t take attendance but his coach did, homework didn’t count much but it was advised he do it anyway to pass. Everything was eerily similar and at the same time totally different.

Swallowing down a gulp of cold shake the boy had to quickly press his tongue to the roof of his mouth to avoid a brain freeze. A slight tint coming to his cheeks before he could exhale and regain his composure. “So man, how are your classes?” Brandon asked with a smile, hazel eyes on the other boy. His upper body covered in a black v-neck t-shirt while the lower was in slightly loose worn jeans, black sandals finished off the careless look. “Hopefully they aren’t as dull as mine.” The boy smiled with a soft laugh.

A rather excited boy couldn't help but stare across the table top. It's true, Chaucer was almost about to pee his pants when he'd gotten the phone call from his friend who hadn't seen in quite a while. At least according to his clock.
When he'd gotten the call, he had quickly began to search for something to wear, but ended up settling on a red and cream plaid shirt over top a plain white tee. His jeans were nothing special and clung to his hips thanks to the black belt he had found on the floor of the hall. It wasn't until he was finished dressing that extreme horror had taken over and he couldn't help but stare blankly into the mirror of his bathroom. His hair. He'd chopped off on impulse almost a week ago. "What if I look a complete mess?" was the primary thought on his mind.

After a few minutes of playing with the short mess, he grabbed a brown sweater, slipped on white and red sneakers, and headed out the door towards the ice cream parlor.

And now he sat, staring at the other boy from across the table. "Boring," a small smile smoothed out his lips. "I mean, I'm just taking the general classes right now, so it's really nothing special, or important for that matter." His fingers began to twist the straw of his diet coke, "But besides school, how have you been? I mean I know we left on a strange note last time. Are things picking up for you at all?" His eyes wandered back and forth as he drew his legs up to fold criss-cross on the bench, feet free from their shoe prison.

You were a song I couldn't sing
Caught like a bear by the bees
With its hand in a hive
Who complains of the sting
when I'm lucky I got out alive!
